The dance academy's "Dance for a Cure" event was a magical performance of Cinderella that took place Dec 3rd and 4th, 2005 at the Oscoda High School auditorium and January 21st, 2006 at the Standish-Sterling Central High School auditorium. Ms. Kaye Lani Rae Rafko Wilson, Miss America 1988, was at the Standish program as a special guest speaker and gave the forward address. A portion of the proceeds both programs went to benefit the St. Joseph Hospital Health & Hospice, Mid Michigan Hospice (Midland), the Hospice of Helping Hands (West Branch), as well as Kaye Lani's hometown hospice in Monroe, MI.

 

KAYE LANI RAE RAFKO-WILSON BIOGRAPHY

Kaye Lani was the very first registered nurse to be crowned Miss America. Since being crowned in 1988, she has used her celebrity as a former Miss America to focus on the profession of nursing, hospice programs, and critical health care issues, including AIDS. Kaye Lani has traveled to 49 states and 6 countries sharing her message to groups of all types, as well as addressing a Congressional subcommittee in Washington D.C, concerning issues facing the nursing community. In addition, she has prepared numerous national and state public service announcements for nurses, volunteers, and hospice programs and participated in fundraising activities and spoken to many national organizations including the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Make A Wish Foundation, United Way, and the March of Dimes, to name only a few. She has addressed medical professional groups around the world, including those in Singapore, Malaysia, Rome, and Paris, voicing current concerns in the field of nursing.

Kaye Lani is married to Charles (Chuck) Wilson and is the mother of three very active children. She continues to be a motivational speaker, a leader in her community, an active hospice professional, and president of Gabby’s Ladder, a bereavement program for children and their families.
