"From the very beginning of his career it was quite clear that Mr. Canale was an exceptionally gifted and versatile artist. Later, he developed his great talents for choreography and for the coaching and teaching of dancers. He also proved that he had the skills to direct an international ballet company."

- Marco F. Riaskoff
Riaskoff Concert Management
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

"He (Giuseppe) succeeded in restructuring a company which for many years had been neglected... Under his direction, the quality of the dancers improved. I have appreciated his sensitivity, his technical competence, and his skill both as a dancer and as a teacher."

- Dr. Francesco Giambrone
Director of Cultural Affairs
Supervisor of Teatro Massimo
City of Palermo, Italy

"Giuseppe always was encouraging and demanding at the same time; dedicated to his new endeavor, choreography, and very passionate about dance... It is rare that someone can manage dancing, coaching, choreography, and directing a company all at the same time with such security and understanding of all four disciplines."

- Nathalie Caris
Principal Dancer of The Dutch National Ballet, Amsterdam

"Giuseppe Canale is an extremely gifted teacher. He not only teaches beautiful technique, but also has a unique ability to bring out a passion for dance in his students. After only two years of dance, my son Eddie was accepted at the National Ballet School in Toronto at the age of 13. At the audition, people wanted to know who had trained him so well in such a short time."

- Jennifer Stark
Parent of Eddie Persondek

"Giuseppe is smart, sophisticated, a relentless worker; and manages to fuse all this experience into one formula. He has an admirable, elegant technique, which makes him very popular whenever he performs. In two years' time, Giuseppe made sure that the impossible does happen, if you only try: he put the (Teatro Massimo) company back on its feet."

- Michel Odin
Danse Conservatoire Magazine August, 1996

"Without any doubt Giuseppe is one of the most talented and gifted teachers, coaches, dancers, and company directors of those I have met and worked with."

- Chantal Nathalie Serval
Director of The Cantaloop Coach Workplace for Dance Training
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

"His presence has allowed the youth of our area to be exposed to true classical dance that we never would have dreamed possible."

- Rose Mary Nentwig
VP, Huron Community Bank
President, Oscoda-Au Sable Chamber of Commerce

"As an administrator in education, it is refreshing to see a person so dedicated as Giuseppe to the teaching of children...The children have learned discipline, gained self-esteem, and more importantly gained respect for others and themselves...Under the direction of Giuseppe, my daughter has gained skills I thought impossible...The personal love she has for Giuseppe is even more important to me...Positive role models are hard to find, and Giuseppe is one of those positive role models in my daughter's life."

- Jeanette M. Klein, Principal
Cedar Lake Elementary
Oscoda, Michigan

"When I turn on the music and that familiar feeling swells up inside of me, I realize why I am doing this. I'm doing this because I love ballet. Thank you (Giuseppe and Scott) for being wonderful teachers. After all, you're the ones who put that wonderful feeling there."

- Maggie Stalker, Student, Age 9. Oscoda, Michigan

Giuseppe Canale

"Giuseppe Canale is an internationally recognized ballet dancer, choreographer, instructor, and coach. Born in Palermo, Italy, he began his dance training at age 11 under the direction of Ludivicio Durst. He then trained at the National Academy of Dance in Rome, as well as Maurice Bejart's famous Mudra Dance School in Brussels, and has taken master classes at the School of American Ballet in New York.

He has toured extensively as a dancer with such companies as Ballet Company of Germinal Casado (West Germany), Ballet Company Jean Deroc (Switzerland). He also danced professionally with the Het Nationale Ballet in the Netherlands. He has toured all over Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, and has choreographed works for Het Nationale Ballet and Teatro Massimo.

In 1994, the Mayor of Palermo invited him to return to his native home to serve as Director of Corps de Ballet for Teatro Massimo - a company which had been abandoned for over 20 years. As director, he revived the company and revitalized the theater's repertoire. He worked closely with 30 dancers - restoring confidence and motivation lost to years of inactivity and bringing in well-known dancers and choreographers. Within one year, the company had presented an outstanding performance, and Giuseppe was publicly congratulated by the President of Italy. As director, Giuseppe also spearheaded multiple arts outreach programs for Sicilian children with little or no dance exposure.

Since moving to the United states, Giuseppe has become the Co-Director of the Northeast Academy of Dance in Oscoda, Michigan, where he brings his passion for dance to the youth in the area. He has appeared as judge at the Luxembourg International Ballet Competition, and most recently as a judge and teacher for the Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition in New York City. In 2004, he began teaching and choreographing for the American Ballet Theatre summer program. Most recently, he has been coaching students from the School of American Ballet and been guest teaching for the Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam. Giuseppe has been cited by the American Guild of Music Artists as having extraordinary ability in the field of dance.
